Dear SPAGN Members and Friends,

As we continue Sarcoma Awareness Month 2026,  this week's campaign focuses on one of the most important messages for everyone affected by sarcoma:

Access to specialist expertise matters.

Finding the right team at the right time can make a significant difference throughout the sarcoma journey. This week, we highlight the importance of specialist care, multidisciplinary teams, research, and the resources available to support patients around the world.

All the best from the
SPAGN Board of Directors & Team
🏥  Access to Expertise, Care, Resources, and Research

For many sarcoma patients, the first treatment is one of the most important.

Referral to a specialist sarcoma centre before biopsy or surgery can significantly improve outcomes, yet many patients are still treated outside specialist networks.
Throughout this week, we will share resources that highlight why specialist care and multidisciplinary collaboration are essential.

This week's key messages:

• Sarcoma expertise saves lives—especially before the first surgery.
• Rare cancers require specialist networks and multidisciplinary care.
• Research and collaboration continue to improve care for people living with sarcoma.

Care Should Not Depend on Location

Where you are treated should not determine the quality of care you receive.

SPAGN's Sarcoma Intelligent Specialist Network (SISN) paper called for global standards to help identify, support, and connect specialist sarcoma centers around the world.

The goal: ensuring that every person affected by sarcoma has access to the highest standard of care possible, regardless of geography.

💡 Valuable resource to explore

Sarcoma diagnosis often comes with an unexpected challenge: learning how to navigate a disease that most people, including many healthcare professionals, may never encounter.

Patients, caregivers, and families are frequently asked to become experts in their own sarcoma subtype while also making decisions about treatment, research, and clinical trials.

That's why access to reliable information matters.

SPAGN's Study Directory brings together information about sarcoma-related studies and research opportunities from around the world, helping people affected by sarcoma connect with research that may be relevant to them.

🔊 Call to action

Join us in helping make sarcoma visible by supporting Light Up for Sarcoma and sharing photos from landmark illuminations and local awareness activities across the world.

You don't need a famous landmark to participate. A local building, a community space, a workplace, a place of worship, or even your own home can help raise awareness for sarcoma and the people affected by it.

Together we can shine a light on everyone affected by sarcoma.

📝 Test Your Knowledge

Take this week’s quick quiz and learn about the challenges people affected by sarcoma can face when accessing care, research, and support.

Help highlight the barriers faced by the sarcoma community and the importance of improving access to specialist care and opportunities for all.

By sharing knowledge, we can help create a more connected and informed global community where everyone affected by sarcoma has the support and resources they need.
