Dear SPAGN Members and Friends,

As we move into the third week of Sarcoma Awareness Month 2026, we turn our attention to one of the defining characteristics of sarcoma: its diversity.

Sarcoma is not one disease. With more than 100 different subtypes, every diagnosis, treatment journey, and patient experience is unique. This week, we highlight why understanding these differences is essential for improving awareness, diagnosis, and care.

🧩 Different Subtypes, Different Needs

No two sarcomas are exactly alike. Each subtype presents differently, responds differently to treatment, and creates different challenges for patients and families.

This diversity contributes to diagnostic complexity and reinforces why specialist expertise is so important.

Throughout the week, we'll be sharing patient stories and educational resources that highlight the wide range of sarcoma experiences.

This week's key messages:

  • There are more than 100 different sarcoma subtypes.
  • Diagnosis and treatment must be individualized.
  • Understanding subtype differences is essential for appropriate care.
🎗️ Awareness Days This Week

This week also includes opportunities to shine a spotlight on specific sarcoma subtypes.

💙 PEComa Awareness Day

💚 GIST Awareness Day

💜 Leiomyosarcoma (LMS) Awareness Day

Help us raise awareness by sharing campaign materials, educational resources, and personal stories throughout the week.

🎥 Voices from Our Community

One of the strongest messages throughout this campaign is that every sarcoma journey is different—but no one has to face it alone.

Our community stories help increase understanding, provide hope, and remind patients and families that others share many of the same experiences.

📝 Test Your Knowledge

Take this week's quick quiz and help raise awareness of the many rare and diverse sarcoma subtypes by sharing it with your colleagues, friends, and wider community.

Although each sarcoma subtype is rare, together they represent a complex group of cancers that deserve greater recognition, understanding, and research.

Every conversation helps increase awareness, reduce misconceptions, and bring attention to the unique challenges faced by people living with rare sarcoma subtypes.

Thank you to our valued partners👏
