Dear SPAGN Members and Friends,

As we continue Sarcoma Awareness Month 2026, our focus turns to one of the greatest challenges faced by people living with sarcoma: Delayed, Missed, or Misdiagnosed.

For many patients, the journey to diagnosis is long and uncertain. This week, we aim to increase awareness of why early recognition matters and why timely referral to specialist care can make a real difference.

🔎 Week 2: Delayed, Missed, or Misdiagnosed

Sarcoma symptoms are often vague. A lump may appear harmless, while pain may be mistaken for a sports injury or normal growth.

Many patients see several healthcare professionals before sarcoma is even suspected.

This week's campaign explores the emotional and clinical impact of delayed diagnosis while encouraging greater awareness across all healthcare disciplines.

This week's key messages:

• Early recognition can improve outcomes.
• A growing lump larger than 5 cm should always be investigated.
• Listening to patients and escalating concerns can save valuable time.

🎥 Stories from Our Community

Throughout the campaign we will share personal stories from patients, caregivers, advocates, and healthcare professionals.

These experiences demonstrate the challenges many people face before receiving a diagnosis—and reinforce that no one should have to navigate this journey alone.

📝 Test Your Knowledge

Take this week’s quick quiz and help us spread awareness about sarcoma by sharing it with your colleagues, friends, and wider community.

Every conversation — no matter how small — has the power to increase understanding and bring attention to a rare and often overlooked cancer.

Small conversations often lead to greater awareness, and greater awareness is the first step toward earlier recognition and better outcomes.
