Key Take-Aways for Patients from EMSOS 2026
EMSOS is a leading European society focused on musculoskeletal oncology. Each year, the congress brings specialists together to share the latest insights, treatments, and research results. The 2026 edition took place in Portugal.

A strong message repeated throughout the congress days was:

Go to the specialist. Expertise makes a difference.

Sarcomas are rare and complex tumours, and treatment in a specialised centre is often an important factor for diagnosis, treatment, and outcome.

The congress also highlighted how broad sarcoma care has become, with researchers, students, psychologists, and other healthcare professionals contributing to shared knowledge across borders and disciplines. A patient testimony during the congress further showed how important the patient voice is becoming in care and research.

EU Survey: Exploratory Study on Adolescents and Young Adults (AYA) Cancer Care

Cancer remains a major public health challenge in Europe. In response, the European Commission has placed cancer high on the policy agenda through initiatives such as Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan and the EU Cancer Mission. Both initiatives recognise the unique needs of vulnerable groups, including Adolescents and Young Adults, who face distinct clinical and psychosocial challenges that require tailored, multidisciplinary care.

This survey is being conducted by ICF at the request of the European Commission to develop an evidence-based model of quality AYA cancer care and map national provision of AYA cancer care across the EU.

Through this survey, the study aims to:

  • Explore the current provision of AYA cancer care in your country
  • Understand views on barriers, enabling factors, and good practices
  • Collect information to develop evidence-based recommendations

📅 The survey will remain open until May 12.
